Abstract

The Marine Biodiversity Information System (SIBM) is a relational database, georeferenced, and implemented in ORACLE, designed by INVEMAR. Its aim is to systematize the Colombian information on marine biodiversity. In the System, data bases in multimedia electronic format of the species stored in the Museo de Historia Natural Marina de Colombia (MHNMC), as well the related information of their capture and identification according to standards already established, are combined. The SIBM is a key tool of access to scientific, technical and public levels on the marine and coastal Colombian biodiversity. Similarly, it provides a link to the relations establishment and coordination with technical national institutions and managers of the natural resources involved with the subject.
