Abstract

As part of the Gulf of Mexico Marine Assessment Program for Protected Species (GoMMAPPS), the SEFSC conducted shipboard surveys of the oceanic waters of the Gulf out to the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) between 11 August and 6 October 2018. A two independent visual observer teams approach with Distance sampling was implemented to estimate the detection probabilities for marine mammal sightings.

Purpose

The primary goal was to collect data on the distribution and abundance of marine mammals in the U.S. waters of the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) using visual survey teams and passive acoustic monitoring.

Supplemental information

Provider's survey code is PC1805.
Perpendicular distance to the animal is not publicly available.
The dataset is accompanied by transect (effort) data which is provided as a separate file.

Sightings included were detected by the flying bridge only or by both the flying bridge and bridge wing teams.

Overview

This section explains attributes included in the original dataset. OBIS-SEAMAP restricts the attributes available to the public to date/time, lat/lon and species names/counts only. Should you need other attributes described here, you are encouraged to contact the data provider.

Attributes described below represent those in the original dataset provided by the provider.
All attributes are included in the downloadable file (CSV or ESRI File Geodatabase) for "Complete Set of Dataset".
