To access the ESAS member only features, you need to log in to the page with your  OBIS-SEAMAP account. If you don't have an account, please contact Tim Dunn (data manager; Tim.Dunn@jncc.gov.uk) and Ei Fujioka (OBIS-SEAMAP staff, efujioka@duke.edu). Ei will issue an account for you.

To log in as an ESAS member:

  1. Go to ESAS Dataset Page.
  2. Click "Log in" at upper right corner. The login form appears.
  3. Enter your Login Name and Password.
  4. Click [Log in].
  5. You'll be forwarded to ESAS Dataset Page. Note now the title reads "European Seabirds at Sea - JNCC All Trips (ESAS Member)".

If you were successful logging in but do not see "(ESAS Member)", your account is not recognized as an ESAS member. Please contact Ei Fujioka.

For the general public, the popup window for the point identified includes the common fields (location, date, species info.)
An ESAS member sees all attributes on the point identified.
Query by trips
ESAS members can explore the data based on trips grouped into ESAS contributors.

Trips and Species observed in the trips

First, switch to [ESAS Trips] tab. The [Trips] table lists up all the trips in the ESAS database. You can narrow them down by setting criteria such as "Time period", "Platform" and "Provider". Every time you change the criteria, the list of trips are upadated.

Select one of the trips and you'll see the map is updated to show the observations from the trip.

  • If you were looking at the grid-based distributions, selecting a trip automatically switches the map to the point layer. You can't map a trip with the grid-based distributions.
  • The [Species observed in trip(s)] table lists up the species observed in the trip. You can select one of the species. Then, the map shows that species from the selected trip.
  • To select multiple trips, press [Multi-select] button in the [Trips] table. Likewise, to select multiple species, press [Multi-select] button in the [Species observed in trip(s)] table.
  • While you are dealing with trips, always use the [Species observed in trip(s)] table to select/deselect your species of interest. Do not use the table in [Species] tab or the one to the left of the map.

Download

To download the data as an ESAS member, select the download options under [ESAS Member Only] section in [Download] tab. This allows you to download data filtered by trip and give you all the attributes that are usually hidden from the public.
