Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Nesting Sites - Brazil

Abstract

Five species of sea turtle nest in Brazil with hawksbills, loggerheads and olive ridleys being the most common. Regionally significant nesting colonies of hawksbills are located in the state of Bahia. Regionally significant nesting colonies of loggerheads are located in the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro. Regionally significant nesting colonies of olive ridleys are located in the state of Sergipe. Sea turtles are fully protected by law.
