Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Nesting Sites - Trinidad & Tobago

Abstract

Four species of sea turtle nest in Trinidad and Tobago, with leatherbacks and hawksbills being the most common. Regionally significant nesting colonies of leatherbacks are located on the north and east coasts of Trinidad, where more than 1000 crawls are recorded annually at each of three sites. The taking of eggs is prohibited and the turtle fishery is governed by seasonal closure.
