Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Nesting Sites - US Virgin Islands

Abstract

Three species of sea turtle nest in the US Virgin Islands, with hawksbills and leatherbacks being the most common. A regionally significant nesting colony of hawksbills is located at Buck Island National Monument, where 500-1000 crawls are recorded annually. A regionally significant nesting colony of leatherbacks is located at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge, where 500-1000 crawls are recorded annually. Sea turtles are fully protected by law.
