Submission

  • OBIS-SEAMAP accepts data with any attributes as long as they are not binary. However, to integrate it into the Catalog, it would be a good practice to reorganize and reformat the data so they fit well in the Catalog schemas (see "Table and column definitions" below).
  • Please also do QA/QC as much as possible.
  • Data can be written in an Excel spreadsheet, CSV (or TAB-delimitered text), ESRI shapefile or ESRI feature class in a file geodatabase.
  • Each sighting is represented in a row.
  • Tracks of the survey platform (ship or airplane) are a collection of straight line segments. Each row of track data should include a start point and an end point with date/time and latitude/longitude. The start and end points are connected with a straight line. Alternatively, each row of track data can be a consecutive point with date/time and latitude/longitude over survey period. In this case, the two consecutive points are connected with a stragith line.
  • Your data is registered into OBIS-SEAMAP as a dataset, gets a Dataset ID and is released to the public unless otherwise noted. It is also integrated into the Catalog with another Dataset ID. The Catalog is publicly downloadable.
  • You can send the data as email attachments to OBIS-SEAMAP manager. Or share it in a cloud storage if it's too large to attach to an email.
  • Once your data is registered into OBIS-SEAMAP, you will be given an OBIS-SEAMAP account and can go through review steps before it's released to the public.
  • Your dataset is released to the public only after you have given us a consent to release.
