Cetacean strandings in the northern Black Sea and the Sea of Azov

More than 1220 strandings of Black Sea cetaceans have been recorded on the coasts of Crimea peninsula during the period from 1989-2010.
More than 1220 strandings of Black Sea cetaceans – harbour porpoises, common dolphins and bottlenose dolphins – have been recorded on the coasts of Crimea peninsula during 22 years (1989-2010) by the cetacean stranding network coordinated from the Brema Laboratory. The dataset includes information about live-stranded animals and findings of cetacean carcasses. The data make it possible to ascertain several cetacean mass mortality events occurred in different years of the monitoring.

This dataset was downloaded from OBIS (https://obis.org/). The records for only marine mammals, seabirds, sea turtles and rays and sharks were extracted. Records with no longitude/latitude or no date (eventDate) were excluded.
