Abstract
Shipboard and aerial line transect surveys were conducted of the North Sea and adhacent waters to provide accurate and avundance estimates of small cetaceans. Known as the SCANS survey, it was conducted in summer 1994. Shipboard transects covered 20,000 km and aerial transects covered 7000km. Harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), white-beaked dolphin (Lagenorhynchus albirostris) and minke whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata) dominated the data.
