This is a collaborative project between the Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the Turtle Conservation Project (TCP) Sri Lanka, the University of Exeter Cornwall Campus, Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) Sri Lanka, Seaturtle.org and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

This project is supported by the Deep Aquarium in Hull, Norwegian Coastal Voyages and the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) as a contribution to furthering our knowledge of turtles in the Indian Ocean as part of the Year of the Turtle 2006.

This is the first time that turtles in Sri Lanka have been fitted with satellite transmitter tags. The project aims to tag 6 female green turtles after they have nested on Rekawa Beach on the south coast of the island during the end of July and beginning of August 2006.
